  1. The “just another wordpress weblog” tagline and the folks who are still installing their wordpress in a “wordpress” directory and it’s in the URL? Absolutely, knock that stuff off yall.

The advice to never display posts in full on the home page? Um, no. That’s uselessly general advice. Bloggers and readers all have different needs and preferences there.

    1. Skye, I agree on the usefulness of the break. I put on in this post because the infographic was so large, but don’t normally use one. And I am annoyed by feeds that make you click through to the blog to read the whole post, although a lot of excellent blogs do that.

  2. This post is a great example of where a break IS useful, or if you have a post with 25 photos in it, that can be great. But the “one size fits all” advice like that is just a pet peeve of mine – what about blogs where most of their posts are only a couple of paragraphs?

As long as the feed gives me enough info to know whether I want to read the post, I’m okay with partial feeds – it’s the ones with uninformative post titles and rambling snippets where I end up unsubscribing.

    1. I think Copyblogger does so much with getting keywords into the post titles that he advises getting as many titles as possible on the home page. That means posting many, many snippets with the title and a teaser instead of full articles. That is necessary in a huge space like BlogHer, I get that, but on a one-person blog like this one, I think it is off-putting.
