Keep WordPress Widgets from Appearing on Particular Pages from KnowIT is a terrific explanation of how to pick and choose which pages you want WordPress widgets to appear on.

HTML5 and CSS3 Readiness by Paul Irish and Divya Manian shows a display you can manipulate of HTML5 elements and which browsers already support them. Chrome and Safari 4 have almost complete implementation of HTML5, moving out toward various versions of IE, with very limited support. In addition to running your mouse around the information, you can also resize the display by dragging, because the page is done in HTML5.

Speaking of Chrome, I’ve tried several times to install it on my Mac (OS 10.5.8) and it won’t open. I keep getting errors. Anybody have any ideas what my problem might be?

  2. Oh yes, another thing. (Sorry for being a critic but this has to be said.)

    Safari and Chrome are miles away from being complete in their implementations of HTML5 and CSS3. In fact, I have contacted Paul Irish to see if we can come up with a better definition of “support” for a technology.

    Webkit has some very preliminary support for a lot of things, but that support is often half baked and usually completely inaccessible. The chart is quit misleading, IMO.

    Let me give you one example: Web forms. Webkit has a slider and a search widget, but no time widgets. The iPhone recognizes input type=url/email/number and gives you a custom keyboard (cool), but no Webkit based browser currently enforce the validation rules for those fields. Neither safari 4 or Chrome 5 enforces any constraints, like the required attribute.

    Client side SQL should really not be on the chart at all, since there is a beginning consensus that another technology, IndexedDB, is the better option.

    And also, there are lots of stuff in Firefox nightly that does not show up on the chart, which makes it quite misleading. E.g. an almost perfect HTML5 parser. Very unsexy, but quite important. A very sexy feature, recently added, is CSS flex boxes. The absolutely best option for fluid and flexible layoutes, that we have seen so far. And Firefox is the only browser to support WOFF, SVG clip paths and filters on HTML content, etc, etc. None of these are in the now almost ubiquitous support charts.

    (Being a nerd, I keep on top of these things by tracking the bugs in Webkit’s and Mozilla’s Bugzillas. That’s the only reliable information one can find, once again, IMO.)
