Thanks for the mention and for expanding on your previous post regarding the &lt;b&gt; and &lt;i&gt; tags. I can’t help but think that the “semantic” meanings for these tags is essentially saying that they’ll likely still be bold and italics, respectively, but we don’t want you to use them if you can help it. ;-)

Pretty much all examples of the new use would logically be expected to display as bold or italic text. I guess the only caveat to this is the fact that browsers are not necessarily compelled to render them in that way (but you know they will).
